Do you know anything about the recalls of the herbal products SPES and PC-SPES, both made by BotanicLabs?

As of January 28, 2002, the herbal product SPES has been recalled by its manufacturer BotanicLab due to contamination with the drug Xanax. Complete information for a limited time can be found by calling a hotline set up at the company (1-800-458-5854).

The herbal product PC-SPES, marketed for the treatment of prostate cancer, has also been recalled and taken off the market at this time. The following website has an explanation of the chain of events leading to the recall. The manufacturing company BotanicLab will be shutting it's doors on June 1, 2002.

At this time, I cannot recommend the use of either of these products. If you have any remaining supply of these two products, stop taking them immediately. Call BotanicLab to determine how to return your purchases.

I also strongly recommend that you tell your health care practitioners, particularly your oncologist, if you were taking these products.
