Frequently Asked Questions

I have read your book and I know that you drink astragalus tea. I was wondering what you think about other types of teas like the Jason Winters tea?

I chose astragalus tea specifically for its immune enhancing activity after first optimizing all other aspects of my diet and lifestyle. In other words, my choice was made to specifically enhance an individual health goal based on both my own needs and available research. I strongly suggest seeking an individual assessment of your overall health needs and goals with a Registered Dietitian (RD), preferably one associated with your cancer treatment facility, as she will have easy access to your complete medical records and health care team. She can help devise an approach to optimizing all aspects of your health in a manner that is unique to your needs taking into consideration all of your health concerns (as cancer only rarely happens in a vacuum!). She will help you with food choices and also dietary supplements that may help optimize your overall health. She will help you review all options, such as the Jason Winters tea you have asked about, but also others that may help with the same goal, looking at many factors such as costs. (Personally, I prefer to put my money into more organic foods than an expensive tea.)

If your cancer center does not have an RD on staff to be providing nutrition services as a component of comprehensive cancer care,

  • you should be asking/pressing your doctors "Why not?" then
  • go to www.eatright.org, type in your zip code on the left side of the screen, to find an RD in your location in private practice.

Best wishes. I hope this perspective has been helpful :-)
