Frequently Asked Questions

Q - How can I use the diet recommendations on your web site and in your book to both increase my intake of cancer fighting foods for optimizing my cancer recovery and lose weight at the same time?

I commend you for seeking accurate information to help yourself have the best odds for long-term cancer recovery plus optimizing your overall health.

I always recommend seeking the professional expertise of a Registered Dietitian (RD) who can evaluate and prioritize your overall nutritional needs based on both your complete medical history and personal goals and then make recommendations that are individualized to meet your unique situation. Some cancer centers have RDs on staff to counsel cancer survivors as part of their overall cancer care, and some people need to find an RD in private practice (see www.eatright.org, click on Find a Nutritional Professional), Some insurance companies are paying for these professional services, but in any case, it is money well invested in your health. I hear from people all the time that their RD is like their *new best friend*.

Most RDs are familiar with my book A Dietitian's Cancer Story and can use it as a guide to help give you a framework for an individualized approach to your cancer recovery. They can also use the recipes from my web site to show you how they fit into your food plan.

I send you all my best wishes for good health, healing, and hope!
