What is your opinion of the veggie washes that are on the market? What do you use on your fruit and vegetables?
I have veggie washes but rarely use them. I have just been using lots of running water and sometimes some good grease-cutting liquid dish soap to remove both pesticides and harmful bacteria. I do scrub my melons with a dish detergent before I cut them to keep the knife from potentially dragging any bacteria residing in the crevices of the outside peel onto the inside fruit.
An article published in the February 2003 issue of Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology showed very little benefit over simply using plain water when evaluating the effectiveness of a popular veggie wash.
