When the Detroit Free Press' medical writer, Pat Anstett, suggested my telephone number be included in the article, I could not foresee why she thought that would be necessary. However, my phone began ringing before 9 AM the morning the article was published and continued almost non-stop for months following the article's distribution to newspapers throughout the country over the Knight-Ridder wire service. Additionally, the article has been clipped and sent to friends and relatives from all sections of the U.S., Canada, and at least 6 other countries that I have been told about. Although most of the articles reprinted in other newspapers did not publish my telephone number, people were creative, found my number, and called. I now truly understand the "power of the written word"! And people are still calling a full year later.
The response to this article ranged from simple "Congratulations" to multiple requests for more information on the changes I have made in my diet and lifestyle. Cancer patients frequently ask of both their health care practitioner and themselves, "What else can I be doing to help fight my cancer, reduce my risks of a recurrence, or even keep a new cancer from developing?" Almost everyone who called asked me to write a book giving more information about my experiences, the changes I have made in my diet and lifestyle in order to address these important questions, and my resources.
